US BTS reports 2.9% rise in system passenger numbers in Feb-2011

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reports (12-May-2011) the following total system (domestic and international) traffic results for US airlines in Feb-2011:

  • Passenger numbers: 50.1 million, +2.9% year-on-year;
  • Passenger traffic (RPMs): +3.9%;
  • Capacity (ASMs): +4.9%;
  • Load factor: 75.8%, -0.6 ppt;

According to BTS, Southwest remained the largest US airline, by total scheduled system enplanements in Feb-2011. The top ten airlines are as follows:

  • Southwest: 7.6 million, +9.2%;
  • Delta: 7.6 million, +3.9%;
  • American: 6.0 million, +0.3%;
  • US Airways: 3.8 million, +4.8%;
  • United: 3.5 million, -5.0%;
  • Continental: 3.1 million, +2.8%;
  • JetBlue: 1.8 million, +10.7%;
  • Skywest: 1.7 million, +0.5%;
  • AirTran: 1.6 million, +2.4%;
  • Alaska: 1.2 million, +13.3%. [more]
