UK Transport Secretary asks questions over winter preparations

UK Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has asked the UK Government's chief scientific adviser to assess whether the recent weather conditions in the country are due to climate change and if the government needs to spend more on preparing for future winters (Reuters, 19-Dec-2010)

UK Government: "As my colleague, the transport secretary, has said, we haven't been equipped over the last few decades in this country to cope ... with every aspect of severe prolonged cold weather. We may have to look again at that if these things are to recur frequently," William Hague, Foreign Secretary. Source: Reuters, 19-Dec-2010.
