UK Government to seek 'positive and constructive' partnership with EU

UK's Government published (02-Feb-2017) its plan for "a new, positive and constructive" partnership of mutual interest to the UK and EU, in a White Paper entitled 'The United Kingdom's Exit from, and New Partnership with, the European Union'. The document notes the UK and EU's mutual interest in maintaining the freest trade possible following the UK's exit from EU. The document highlights the interests of both sides in building a new strategic partnership with an ambitious trade agreement and a new customs agreement and the importance of delivering a mutually beneficial exit. The document also confirms plans for a separate White Paper on the Great Repeal Bill, to ensure certainty and stability by transposing EU law into UK law, wherever practical and appropriate, and separate legislation in areas likely to be affected by the outcome of negotiations, such as customs and immigration.
