Taichung Airport reports record pax in 2012

Taiwan's Taichung Airport reported a 9.8% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to a record 1.6 million in 2012, as reported by China Times. The airport reported international passengers, including cross-Strait, surpassed domestic passenger numbers for the first time with 913,000 passengers. The top international route was Hong Kong with 456,000 passengers, up 19.7%. Passenger numbers on Taichung-Macau sector increased from 224 in 2011 to 42,000 last year following the entry of Mandarin Airlines and UNI Air last year. Details include:

  • Passenger numbers: 1.6 million, +9.8% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 679,000, -6.8%;
    • Cross-Strait: 314,000, +17.7%;
    • International excl cross-Strait: 599,000, +31.7%.
