South Korea int'l pax numbers up 10% in Jul-2012, int'l cargo down 3%

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (17-Aug-2012) international passenger numbers rose 10.2% year-on-year in Jul-2012:

  • Passenger numbers:
    • Domestic: 1.8 million, +6.0% year-on-year;
      • LCCs: 790,000, +9.0%;
    • International: 4.3 million, +10.2%;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 1.0 million, +16.9%;
      • China: 1.1 million, +12.6%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.3 million, +9.8%;
      • Americas: 375,647, -1.6%;
      • Europe: 327,006, +7.7%;
      • Oceania: 144,259, +9.8%;
      • Others: 69,836, +14.1%;
  • Cargo volume: 294,000 tonnes, -3.0%;
    • Domestic: 21,000 tonnes, +1.1%;
    • International: 273,000 tonnes, -3.1%;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 35,912 tonnes, -0.6%;
      • China: 49,900 tonnes, -5.5%;
      • Southeast Asia: 74,186 tonnes, -0.7%;
      • Americas: 59,126 tonnes, -3.5%;
      • Europe: 44,361 tonnes, -8.6%;
      • Oceania: 4,664 tonnes, -3.5%;
      • Others: 5,121 tonnes, +43.3%;
  • Flights: 47,243, +6.9%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea's full service carriers accounted for 66.5% of total international passengers in Jul-2012 while the nation's LCCs accounted for 8% of the total international passenger numbers, up 3.5 ppts. South Korea's LCCs accounted for 43%, up 1.2 ppts of the total domestic passenger numbers in Jul-2012.
