Safran reports 2016 business highlights

Safran reported (24-Feb-2017) the following business highlights for 2016:

  • CFM56 programme: Record 1693 engines delivered, up from 1612 in 2015. Demand remains "robust" with 876 orders and commitments in 2016;
  • LEAP programme: 1801 orders and commitments received, bringing total backlog to 11,563 engines at 31-Dec-2016. CFM ramped up LEAP production with 108 engines produced in 2016, of which 77 were delivered:
    • LEAP-1A: Entered service in Jul-2016, as scheduled, meeting all performance specifications. Six airlines currently operate LEAP-1A engines totalling more than 36,000 flight hours at the end of Jan-2017;
    • LEAP-1B: Certification awarded by EASA and the US FAA on 04-May-2016, paving the way for entry into commercial service in 1H2017. Four Boeing 737 MAX aircraft are in testing and more than 2100 hours of flight tests were logged on over 1600 flights. Safran said the engine is on track to meet desired specifications;
    • LEAP-1C: Certification awarded by EASA and the US FAA on 21-Dec-2016. Comac is preparing the C919 for its first flight, expected in 1H2017;
  • Aircraft equipment: Several carbon brakes contracts signed with airlines for a total of more than 1100 aircraft, bringing the total installed base to close to 8200 aircraft at the end of 2016.
