Ryanair turns attention to poor Shannon results

Ryanair announced (21-Feb-2011) the "high fees of the DAA monopoly" and the government's EUR10 tourist tax have "killed" Shannon Airport. The DAA released traffic statistics showing the airport handled 92,000 passengers in Jan-2011, a 37% year-on-year fall, making Shannon the fastest-declining airport in Europe according to Ryanair. The LCC reiterated its calls for the new government to drop the tax and "break-up the DAA monopoly". Ryanair stated that as Shannon's traffic dropped 37%, its passenger numbers grew 5% year-on-year to 4.44 million.
