Ryanair to introduce EUR0.25 ETS levy to cover new EU eco tax
Ryanair formally announced (12-Jan-2012) plans to introduce a EUR0.25 levy per passenger for all bookings made from 17- Jan-2012, to cover the costs of participating in the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). Ryanair estimates the scheme will cost EUR15-20 million during 2012. Ryanair labelled the ETS an "EU stealth tax" and stated it will "damage traffic, tourism, European competiveness and jobs at a time when no other economic block is including aviation in their ETS schemes".
