President Obama to announce plan to renew and expand America's roads, railways and runways

US President Barack Obama announced a six-year, USD50 billion comprehensive infrastructure plan to expand and renew roads, railways and runways in the US (MarketWatch, 06-Sep-2010). The plan would build on the investments already made under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and also create jobs for US workers to strengthen the US economy. Under the plan, 150 miles of runway will be rehabilitated or reconstructed and the NextGen air traffic control system will also be installed. [more - Obama Administration]

Meanwhile, the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) President Charles M. Barclay announced his support for President Obama's call for increased infrastructure spending, including additional funding for airport development and a next generation air traffic control system. [more - AAAE]
