Phuket International Airport redevelopment underway

Airports of Thailand (AoT) stated redevelopment is currently underway at Phuket International Airport, Thailand's second largest airport (Thai News Agency, 08-Oct-2009). According to AoT, the airport development project is expected to be completed in 2013 and will include construction of an international passenger terminal with capacity for 12.5 million passengers p/a. The airport will also renovate the current passenger terminal, construct an additional 21 aircraft parking bays, a cargo terminal and a new car park. The airport, which handles approximately 6.5 million passengers p/a, stated "many more" airlines have requested landing rights by the end of 2009. It expects passenger numbers to double by 2013.
