Project Speedbird, involving British Airways, LanzaJet and Nova Pangaea Technologies, secured GBP9 million from the UK's Department for Transport to develop sustainable aviation fuel by converting agricultural waste and wood residue into biofuels such as ethanol, which LanzaJet then processes into SAF. British Airways committed to purchasing all SAF produced, with initial processing at LanzaJet's Georgia plant before a larger UK facility opens by 20271. LanzaJet received additional UK funding for project acceleration2.
