Munich Airport to launch midfield satellite terminal on 26-Apr-2016

Munich Airport announced (22-Apr-2016) plans to launch its new midfield satellite terminal on 26-Apr-2016. The new facility will offer 27 more gate positions where passengers can board aircraft directly without bus transportation, while increasing the capacity of terminal 2 by 11 million passengers p/a. The satellite facility has no direct landside transportation links, and check-in will take place in terminal 2. The satellite terminal features 15 retail areas, seven restaurants and cafes and three duty free zones in a 7000sqm setting, as well as five new Lufthansa lounges. Munich Airport aims to achieve a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions in the new facility as compared with the airport's existing terminal buildings, partly through special "climateoptimized facades." The satellite terminal was built within budget and on schedule, with total investments amounting to around EUR900 million euros, including the costs for the new building itself, the expansion of the baggage sorting facility and the construction work on the ramps and taxiways near the terminal.
