Munich Airport sets new pax and cargo records

Germany's Munich Airport announced it set new records for passenger and cargo traffic in 2010. Passenger numbers increased 6% year-on-year to 35 million and air cargo increase 27% to 275,000 tonnes. The airport stated it remained Europe's seventh-busiest airport (passenger volume). Munich Airport stated the return in demand in 2010 "was met in particular by Lufthansa and its partner airline through the use of larger aircraft". The airport expects to continue to receive larger aircraft which will boost passenger volumes. Highlights in 2010 include:

  • Long-haul traffic: 5.3 million, +16%;
  • European traffic: 20.0 million, +6%;
  • Domestic traffic: 9.3 million, +1%. [more]
