Mactan-Cebu Airport to commence operations on new runway in May/Jun-2025

Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority GM Jayjay Neri, speaking at Routes Asia 2025, stated (26-Mar-2025) the airport's new parallel runway should be operational by late May-2025 or Jun-2025. Once the new runway opens, the airport will close its main runway for repairs. Following the repairs, the runways will be able to operate simultaneously, increasing capacity by approximately 25%, which Mr Neri expects will reduce waiting times, speed up taxiing, reduce the airport's carbon footprint and save costs for airlines.

GM Jayjay Neri announced the airport's domestic hub connectivity was fully operational, with plans to expand to international connections by the end of 20252. The government allocated PHP7.7 billion for an Aviation Infrastructure Program to modernise airport facilities across the country1.
