Jetstar Japan 'a great opportunity' for Jetstar Group, notes only 6% LCC penetration in Japan

Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka, speaking at the carriers’ 2015 investor day, said (12-May-2015) Jetstar Japan is “a great opportunity” noting the high GDP per capita of the country to a “very low penetration of low fares.” Ms Hrdlicka continued: “Today, we're 60% of the low fares market and the 4th biggest airline in Japan, but low fare penetration is still only 6% of seats.” Ms Hrdlika noted the following y-o-y changes at Jetstar Japan between 1H2014 and 1H2015:

  • 34% increase in capacity;
  • 8% improvement in RASK;
  • 11% improvement in yield;
  • 14% improvement in ancillary revenue/passenger;
