JETGO Australia sees 'enormous challenges and barriers to entry' for regional operators

JETGO Australia MD airlines Paul Bredereck, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit 2014, stated (06-Aug-2014) there are "enormous challenges and barriers to entry" for regional operators. He was critical of the regulatory environment, describing it as a "nanny state" regulatory environment, which he labelled as "toxic", "incompetent" and "inappropriate". He also noted the"inequitable access to capital city airport infrastructure" for regional airports. He said access to Brisbane and Sydney airport is a challenge, while noting: "We believe country people deserve equal access to the airport infrastructure". He said charges levied by the major airports on regional operators are "out of proportion" with regional carriers having no ability to negotiate with these airports.
