The renovation and expansion of Mzuzu Airport, which included extending the runway to handle larger aircraft, was part of a broader plan to increase connectivity and economic benefits in the northern region of Malawi1 2. Malawi's Ministry of Transport and Public Works anticipated that Mzuzu Airport would resume operations by March 2025, with the expectation that Karonga Airport would soon follow3.
