JAL should stay with American/oneworld - Mineta

American Airlines adviser, former US Transportation Secretary, Norman Mineta, stated Japan Airlines should retain its relationships with American Airlines and oneworld, as an alliance with Delta Air Lines would not automatically lead to antitrust immunity (Kyodo, 15-Dec-2009).

American Airlines: "Open skies does not mean that antitrust immunity is automatic. There is a whole bunch of criteria that you have to meet. The bureaucrats want to be aligned with the No 1 carrier in the world. But what does it bring you? Does it bring you that much? I don't think so. Not if [it] doesn't give you antitrust immunity", Norman Mineta, Adviser. Source: Kyodo, 15-Dec-2009.
