International passenger traffic up 6.0% in Feb-2011: IATA

IATA reports (29-Mar-2011) the following total international traffic growth by region in Feb-2011:

  • Passenger traffic (RPKs): +6.0% year-on-year;
  • Passenger load factor: 73%;
  • Cargo traffic (FTKs): +2.3%;
    • Africa: -5.7%;
    • Asia Pacific: -4.5%;
    • Europe: +6.3%;
    • Latin America: +12.1%;
    • Middle East: +4.5%:
    • North America: +11.8%. [more]

IATA: “Unfortunately the Japanese earthquake and tsunami has brought a further shock that will depress the March data. Japan generates 6-7% of global travel, 10% of revenues, and significant freight flows. Many are suggesting that reconstruction will generate a significant upturn in the economy, and in demand for transport.
