India's Group of Ministers to meet on Air India on 18-Jul-2011

India's Group of Ministers (GoM), led by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, which is evaluating the situation at Air India, will meet again on 18-Jul-2011 to discuss the airline's turnaround plan (Economic Times, 01-Jul-2011). The GoM, established on 22-Jun-2011, established an inter-ministerial committee with representatives from the Planning Commission, Department of Economic Affairs, financial services department, expenditure and aviation ministry to examine the airline's turnaround plan (TAP). The Group is also likely to take a decision on releasing further funds to the carrier, which the government owes to Air India for carrying out VVIP movement, Libya evacuation and Haj operations. The funds would be used to pay the carrier's salaries.
