Ibaraki Airport commences operation

Japan's Ibaraki Airport commenced operation on 11-Mar-2010 (The Yomiuri Shimbun, 12-Mar-2010). The Ibaraki Prefectural Government reportedly invested approximately USD80.5 million of the USD240 million total construction costs. The airport, designed to accommodate budget airlines and serve as an alternative Tokyo airport, is the country's 98th airport.
