IATA calls for more mergers and new framework for airline regulation

IATA Director General & CEO, Giovanni Bisignani, stated consolidation and mergers are essential if the airline industry is to become more efficient (Reuters, 12-Apr-2010). Mr Bisignani called for the establishment of a new regulatory framework to permit mergers across national borders.

IATA: "Mergers and consolidation is a must...No other industry is so fragmented, so we have to consolidate in order to build more efficiency. I strongly support consolidation...I'm raising the agenda of freedom on consolidation because we cannot do the same thing between an American and a European carrier," Giovanni Bisignani, Director General & CEO.
