IATA: Asia Pacific passenger volumes up a 'solid' 8.5% in Jan-2019

IATA released (27-Mar-2019) its 'Regional Briefing - Asia Pacific' for Mar-2019. Key passenger traffic highlights include:

  • Passenger volumes for the carriers based in the Asia Pacific increased by a solid 8.5% year-on-year in Jan-2019, the fastest pace since Aug-2018. Growth came despite concerns about the impact of a growth moderation in China;
  • India recorded its 53rd month of double-digit increase in pax volumes in Jan-2019 (+12.4%);
  • Japanese domestic growth eased to 3% in Jan-2019;
  • Australia saw a modest improvement in 2019, with year-on-year growth returning to positive territory (+0.3%) after two months of decline;
