IATA: 2023 was the safest year for flying on record by multiple parameters

IATA operations, safety and security senior VP Nick Careen, speaking at the IATA AGM, stated (03-Jun-2024) 2023 was the safest year for flying on record by multiple parameters. Mr Careen noted in 2023 there were no jet hull loses and no fatal accidents involving jet hull aircraft, while the total accident count was below the five year average. The industry fatality risk improved to 0.03 in 2023, down from 0.11 in 2022 and below the five year average.
