IAG firms eight A330-200 options for Iberia

International Airlines Group (IAG) announced (22-Sep-2014) its decision to convert eight options for A330-200 aircraft into firm orders, with the aircraft to be delivered to Iberia between 2015 and 2018. IAG also announced it has taken out options for a further ten A330 aircraft, "to provide fleet flexibility for the Group." As previously reported by CAPA, IAG announced its intention on 01-Aug-2014 to acquire eight A330-200s for Iberia, from either a conversion of options or from the operating lease market. The aircraft, in addition to eight A350-900 aircraft, will replace 14 of Iberia's A340s. Airbus CCO customers John Leahy said: "We are just delighted that Iberia has reconfirmed its confidence in the A330, and are extremely pleased to welcome them as a new operator of the A330-200 benefiting from the enhanced performance that the new 242 tonne version brings, while continuing to deliver the family synergies of an all Airbus fleet."
