The airport reported (16-Sep-2012) passenger numbers and aircraft movements broke new monthly records for the second consecutive month in Aug-2012 boosted by growing demand during the summer holiday period and driven primarily by a 7% increase in visitors while passenger numbers to/from Southeast Asia and Japan performed particularly well. In cargo traffic, a 3% increase in export volumes led the growth in cargo tonnage in Aug-2012, and cargo throughput to/from Japan and Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions. Looking ahead, Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui said, "we anticipate a steady growth trend in coming months as travel usually peaks at the end of the year, and in particular, during major festivals or holidays such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day Golden Week".
