Finmeccanica name change to Leonardo approved

Finmeccanica confirmed (28-Apr-2016) its shareholders meeting approved a change of the company's name from Finmeccanica to Leonardo. The company, via its official Twitter account, stated: "After 68 years as a brand synonymous with innovation in the high-tech sector, #Finmeccanica is reborn in the spirit of #Leonardo da Vinci". The new name will be adopted from 01-Jan-2017. Finmeccanica first announced the decision in Mar-2016 by management to remove the historic name in favor of Leonardo, after the 15th century artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. To help the switch to the new name, the firm said it would call itself Leonardo-Finmeccanica until 31-Dec-2016, before changing to Leonardo on 01-Jan-2017. The gradual change "is aimed at granting the Company a suitable time frame to ensure the required continuity, mainly in relationships with foreign countries," the company said.
