Background ✨
The US FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive on 08-Nov-2025 grounding MD-11 and MD-11F aircraft for engine-pylon structure inspections, following the crash of a UPS MD-11F on 04-Nov-2025 in which the left hand engine and pylon detached during takeoff. The directive was later expanded to include DC-10 series aircraft, and both UPS and FedEx grounded their MD-11F fleets for mandated inspections and corrective actions1 2 3.
