FAA: 2016 was 'pretty good year' for US airline industry

US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released (21-Mar-2017) its annual aerospace forecast report fiscal years 2017 to 2037, noting 2016 was a "pretty good year" for US aviation despite slow economic growth at home and abroad. The agency said a combination of robust domestic traffic and falling costs offset a decline in revenue caused by lower yields, resulting in record profits for the US airline industry. FAA said a shift in from market share to boosting returns on invested capital has resulted in sustained profitability, with US airlines becoming "more nimble in adjusting capacity to seize opportunities or minimise losses".
