EUROCONTROL: 500 flights cancelled in Europe on 10-May-2010

EUROCONTROL reported 23,491 flights in European airspace on 09-May-2010, approximately 1,500 below normal traffic levels. EUROCONTROL expects approximately 28,500 flights within the European area on 10-May-2010, approximately 500 below average. Presently no airports are closed in Europe. Areas of high ash concentration have dispersed overnight over continental Europe. An area of ash cloud hangs over the mid-North Atlantic, affecting trans-Atlantic flights with many rerouting to avoid the area, resulting in delays.
