EU suspends sanctions on Syrian Air

European Council suspended (27-Feb-2025) sanctions on Syrian Air and four other entities following the fall of the Assad Government in Syria in Dec-2024. The Council stated the decision "is part of the EU's efforts to support an inclusive political transition in Syria, and its swift economic recovery, reconstruction, and stabilisation". The Council noted the EU aims to facilitate engagement with Syria and its businesses and will introduce exemptions to the prohibition of establishing banking relations between Syrian banks and financial institutions in EU member states.
