EU aviation security and passenger screening technologies

European Commission announced (10-Feb-2010) plans to fully update its common aviation security regime with a new framework, effective 29-Apr-2010. The new framework "responds to the need for more flexibility in adopting security measures and procedures in order to respond to new and evolving threats and to allow new security methods and technologies to be introduced". The Commission plans to present an in-depth report covering security, health and privacy issues relating to body scanning technologies to the European Parliament in Apr-2010. That report will form the basis for a decision on how and if to move ahead with a common EU framework covering the use of body scanning technology. [more]
