IATA reported African countries held USD774 million of blocked airline funds as of 31-Mar-2026, led by Algeria (USD258 million) and the Central African CFA franc zone (USD105 million).1 IATA also reported governments globally blocked USD1.2 billion in airline funds as of end-Oct-2025, with 93% trapped in Africa and the Middle East due to approval delays and foreign exchange shortages.2
