Emirates and Etihad to hire 80,000 staff over next decade

Emirates and Etihad plan to hire almost 80,000 pilots, cabin crew and other staff over the next decade, to support their continued expansion plans, as part of which almost 60,000 new jobs will be created (The National/Arabian Business/Business 24/7/AFP, 11-Jul-2010). Emirates V-P Recruitment, Rick Helliwell, said: "It took us 25 years to get to 40,000 employees but in the next 10 years we will double that to 80,000." Factoring in current employees who retire or leave the carrier, Emirates will require more than 60,000 new employees over the decade, including 2,500 pilots and 20,000 cabin crew, according to Mr Helliwell. Meanwhile, Etihad will expand its employee numbers from approximately 8,000 to 27,000 staff by 2020.
