easyJet to reduce workforce by 30%

easyJet announced (28-May-2020) plans to launch an employee consultation process in the coming days on proposals to reduce staff numbers by up to 30%, reflecting reduced fleet, optimisation of its network and bases, improved productivity and promoting efficiencies. easyJet is also continuing to take action in other cost lines to remove cost and non-critical expenditure from the business as follows:

  • Airports and ground handling: Teams are in active consultation with airports and ground handlers regarding revised contracts to reduce costs;
  • Maintenance: Action was taken to defer time-dependent maintenance spend due to reduced operations and ongoing discussions with suppliers;
  • Sales and marketing: Commercial teams are renegotiating spending with agencies and prioritising on the most effective activities to optimise traffic and sales as operations start to resume. [more - original PR]
