Dubai Airport records busiest month in its history in Aug-2013, signs for rest of year good

UAE's Dubai International Airport reported (24-Sep-2013) a 23.8% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to 6.0 million in Aug-2013, marking the busiest month in terms of passenger numbers in the airport's history and the ninth consecutive month passenger numbers have exceeded five million in a single month. The airport attributes the growth to a "strong growth in almost all markets and the effects of Ramadan and Eid Travel which further boosted traffic." The top regions in terms of percentage growth in traffic included Eastern Europe (+82%), Australasia (+45%), and Asia Pacific (+40.4%). Cargo volume at the airport fell 3% to 184,877 and aircraft movements increased 11.5% to 31,198. Looking ahead, Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said "signs are good for the remainder of the year."
