Drastic reduction in intra-Hokkaido air traffic

ANA and JAL reportedly drastic reductions in air traffic within Hokkaido in Mar-2011 following the 11-Mar-2011 earthquake and tsunami (Hokkaido Shimbun, 02-Apr-2011). JAL Group passenger traffic was down 39.7% year-on-year to 440,555 passengers. The carrier operates 20 routes in Hokkaido. ANA traffic declined by 23.5% to 539,452 passengers. ANA Group operates 32 routes in Hokkaido. Traffic on the Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda route - the world's busiest city pair - was also affected. JAL traffic on the route declined 38.2% to 188,433 passengers. ANA's traffic on the route declined 29.1% to 248,517 passengers.
