Dominican Republic JAC clarifies DAE situation; carrier to publish statement in national paper

Dominican Republic's Civil Aviation Board (JAC) clarified (29-Aug-2013) the situation surrounding the "sudden suspension" of Dutch Antilles Express' (DAE) operations on 27-Aug-2013, which left "dozens" of passengers stranded at Santo Domingo Las Americas International Airport, and stated DAE executives agreed to publish a statement in a national newspaper explaining the carrier's situation. The JAC said it has yet to receive formal notification of DAE's suspension of operations, though took the decision to close the DAE counter at the airport and placed signs advising passengers that DAE operations will be "suspended temporarily" while directing them to DAE's main office in Santo Domingo. The JAC also repatriated the stranded customers by arranging for alternative flights, and urged DAE executives to "explain urgently" the carrier's situation as well as "the compensatory or preventative measures" taken with respect to passengers "based on the commitment to comply with the terms and conditions" of its air transport agreement.
