Oman Air halts Europe flights

Direct News Source

17-Apr-2010 Oman Air has cancelled its flights to the UK, France, and Germany yesterday 15th and today 16th April, after the air traffic control authorities in each of those countries closed their airspace.

This is due to an ash cloud, caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland and currently moving across Europe. The closure of airspace is in keeping with international regulations, which safeguard the safety of passengers. The volcano is sending up smoke and ash that pose a significant safety threat to aircraft, as debris can get sucked into airplane engines.

An official Oman Air's spokesperson said, "We are doing everything we can to ensure our booked and stranded passengers are looked after in Muscat as well as overseas destinations. We want our passengers to rest assured that their safety is our utmost concern and we will do all we can to help alleviate the inconvenience caused by the disruption of their journey. We are closely monitoring the situation and hope to be returning to normal conditions as soon as possible" he added saying.

All passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. Oman Air will endeavour to keep you continuously updated as the situation evolves.
