Continental Airlines recommences merger discussions with United Airlines

Continental Airlines reportedly recommenced merger discussions with United Airlines (Reuters, 15-Apr-2010). Most of the merger groundwork is reportedly already in place from previous merger discussions in 2008 which Continental walked away from in favour of joining the Star Alliance. United was earlier reported to be in merger talks with US Airways.

Meanwhile, Air Line Pilots Association's (ALPA) United Master Executive Council stated (15-Apr-2010) it believes "Continental, rather than US Airways, represents a more logical merger partner for United Airlines". ALPA claims that such a merger would result in fewer route overlaps and greater synergies. [more]
