Boeing regional marketing director: Hub-and-spoke model 'will continue to evolve'
Boeing Commercial Airplanes regional marketing director for Southeast Asia Miyuru Sandaruwan, speaking at Routes Asia 2025, stated (26-Mar-2025) the hub-and-spoke model for airline networks "will continue to evolve". Mr Sandaruwan reported a lot of hub-to-point connectivity and no decline in demand through hubs. Based on forecast growth in South and Southeast Asia, Mr Sandaruwan does not expect any hubs will see a decline in traffic, while secondary cities will see more connections. He said hubs and spokes "will both see growth".
Background ✨
Boeing projected Southeast Asia's passenger air traffic would more than triple by 2043, driven by economic growth and a rising middle class, with airlines needing 4720 new aircraft to meet demand1. The region was expected to have the world's fastest-growing single-aisle market by 2042, with narrowbodies making up 83% of deliveries2. Low-cost carriers were anticipated to expand significantly, handling 56% of passenger traffic by 20422.
