Boeing delivers first 747-8 freighter to Cargolux

Boeing announced the delivery of Cargolux Airlines' first B747-8 freighter aircraft on 12-Oct-2011. Cargolux initially refused deliveries of the aircraft, planned for 19-Sep-2011, due to a contract dispute with Boeing, reportedly over aircraft weight and performance guarantees for the GEnx-2B67 engines.

Cargolux has ordered a total of 13 B747-8Fs - its 10-aircraft launch order in 2005 and a follow-on order for three additional aircraft placed in 2007. A second B747-8F will be delivered on 13-Oct-2011. In Sep-2011, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings cancelled delivery of three early-production B747-8Fs of the 12 on order, citing 12 months of delivery delays and performance considerations. Eight customers have ordered a total of 75 B747-8Fs. [more - original PR]
