Boeing and SIA Engineering for MRO JV to support Southeast Asian customers
Boeing announced (09-Jul-2014) it will enhance its support to customers in Southeast Asia via a JV in Singapore with SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC). Boeing and SIAEC signed an agreement to form Boeing Asia Pacific Aviation Services, which will provide engineering, spare parts, and repair and maintenance services for Boeing aircraft, as well as fleet management services to airlines in the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
- Formation: Formation of the JV is expected to occur by the end of 2014, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals;
- Structure: Boeing will hold a 51% equity stake in the joint venture, with the remaining 49% owned by SIAEC;
- MRO activities: The JV will service 737s, 747s, 777s and 787 aircraft. Boeing Asia Pacific Aviation Services will also offer customers a wide range of aviation services, leveraging Boeing's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) expertise and advanced e-enabling technology, as well as SIAEC's extensive MRO experience to provide a customised, comprehensive and integrated suite of fleet management services;
- Initial contracts: Boeing has signed contracts for maintenance and engineering services to cover Scoot's fleet of 20 787s, currently on order, and Singapore Airlines' fleet of 27 777-300ERs. Services for Scoot and Singapore Airlines will be provided through the new venture, which combines Boeing engineering management with MRO services from SIAEC.
