BIAL embarks on expansion plan to fast track construction of new terminal building

India's Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) reconstituted (19-Jan-2010) its Board of Directors, inducting of three new members following the acquisition of 29% stake in the company by GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd (GVKPIL). The new appointments to the Board are GV Krishna Reddy, Indira K Reddy and GV Sanjay Reddy.

The reconstituted board reviewed the Master Plan for expansion of the Bengaluru International Airport and announced the following:

  • Construction phase of the new T2 terminal building to be initiated immediately. Phase 1 of T2 will cater to passenger traffic of 15 million p/a, to be ultimately expanded to capacity for 36 million passengers p/a. Associated airside infrastructure will also be expanded. A design for the new terminal building will be selected through a global bidding process.
  • Expansion of the existing terminal building, with HOK appointed to design the expansion, taking capacity to 15 million passengers p/a;
  • City side Landscaping Master Plan to be undertaken. [more]
