Bahrain Air expecting break-even result during 2011

Bahrain Air stated it plans to handle 1 million passengers in 2010, as its adds new destinations and targets a break-even result during 2011 (Arabian Business, 23-Jan-2010). The carrier, which operates a fleet of six A319s/A320s leased from Airbus, has ordered two A319s for delivery in 2012 or 2013, and has another two A320 family aircraft on order (the carrier also has an option to order an additional two A320 family aircraft).

Bahrain Air: "Though there is growth, there is a lot of capacity being offered in the markets by start-ups and existing airlines adding more frequencies to protect their market share. I believe that 2010 will be as difficult as 2009 and all airlines will have to struggle to keep their market share and sustain their operations… We think we will break even in 2011," Ibrahim Alhamer, Managing Director.
