Australia's BITRE reports strong growth for regional aviation

Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported (19-Mar-2012) passenger numbers at regional airports increased from nearly 17 million to over 22 million between 2005 and 2010. Most of the growth was due to the increase of passengers travelling on regional air routes between major cities and regional areas, which makes up more than 90% of the regional aviation market. Between 2005 and 2010 the average annual growth rate for passengers at regional airports was 6% compared to 5.7% in major cities. [more - original PR]
