Asia Pacific/Middle East-Europe airport connectivity more than doubles since 2009

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'European airport "connectivity" growth slows', stated (25-Jul-2019) growth was fastest from Europe to the Middle East in all connectivity categories from 2009 to 2019, followed by Asia Pacific. For both regions, airport connectivity has more than doubled since 2009. For Europe-Middle East, the highest growth was in direct connectivity (+116.6%), whereas indirect connectivity was more important in Europe-Asia Pacific (+105.7%, versus 59.8% for direct connectivity). The result is not surprising, given superior traffic growth rates in both of those regions, supported by direct connectivity growth targeted particularly by Gulf airlines in the Middle East, which also drives indirect connectivity growth to Asia Pacific.
