Asia Pacific governments vow to boost international security standards

Asia and Pacific governments vowed to cooperate to boost international security standards and measures at the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Aviation Security (AAP, 14-Mar-2010). The representatives agreed to expand cooperation in the exchange of information and detecting security threats and share expertise in areas including screening and inspection and development of human resources. They also declared theire intent to use modern technologies to detect prohibited items. ICAO now plans to hold a general meeting at the end of Sep-2010 to improve international aviation security.

Australian Minister for Infrastructure, Transport Regional Development and Local Government, Anthony Albanese, attended (12-Mar-2010) the conference and called for international cooperation to boost safety. US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Janet Napolitano, and Canada's Minister of State (Transport), Rob Merrifield, attended the meeting at the invitation of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. [more - USA] [more - Canada]
