Ash disruption costs USD4.7bn in global GDP: Airbus

Airbus released (26-May-2010) details of a report by Oxford Economics on the economic impact of air travel restrictions due to volcanic ash. Between 15-Apr-2010 and 21-Apr-2010, shutdowns amounted to USD4.7 billion in direct effects to global GDP.

  • Europe: USD2,632 million in GDP;
  • Americas: USD957 million in GDP;
  • Middle East/Africa: USD591 million in GDP;
