ASEAN-China aviation agreement to disadvantage SE Asian airlines in the long-term

National University of Singapore professor of aviation law Alan Tan, speaking at the CAPA Asia Aviation Summit, said (15-Nov-2016) the China-ASEAN aviation agreement has resulted in Southeast Asia carriers launching services to new destinations in China. Mr Tan said the agreement disadvantages ASEAN carriers in the long term as the airlines can only operate to and from their home markets as the implementation of ASEAN open skies is incomplete and is unlikely to be realised, "for a long time to come."
